Co-ordinator of the Nene Valley Astronomical Society

My main interest in astronomy has always been in the planets as well as the Moon, although recent years have seen me enjoying some of the wonderful deep sky objects.

My main telescope is a Celeston 6" Refractor which is on a driven equatorial mount. It's just about portable and makes the odd appearance at group Starnight events. I also have a 6" Dobsonian Reflector which I have used regularly on the night sky over the last 25 years as well as a pair of binoculars and a Meade 70 ETX.

Alec - Introduction.

Post  Alec Parker on Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:05 pm

My main role is as deputy teamaker when Iain Barrie is away!

I have a Bresser Messier R102 - 102mm/4inch refractor scope with equatorial mount. Also Opticron Binoculars - 10x42 and also my eyeballs. Best viewing moments have been via the binoculars on clear winter nights. Still trying to get easily familiar with the night sky - it takes time.

Main interest is in history of Astronomy, Maths and Physics especially the main characters and discoveries which came by accident or methodic study. I'm interested in the genius of scientists who also had flaws which led them to miss stuff as well. I'm interested in Astrophysics, Cosmology and the Big Question - where did all this stuff come from? How did it start? Yes, I am a bit of a geek (I have a Physics Degree) and read maths books and the like, other than that I am "normal".
